Sarah Strohm
Viola
Sarah Strohm has already made her mark on the international scene on several occasions. She won an honorary mention and the prize for the best performance of Oskar Nedbal’s piece in the Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition (2023); 2nd prize in the Johannes Brahms Competition (2021); the Emcy Prize and 1st prize in the Aims Foundation competition for soloists with a symphony orchestra (2019). At national level, she won 1st prize in the Valiant Forum competition as part of the Murten Classics festival (2023) and is also a multiple winner of the Swiss Youth Music Competition (2016, 2018, 2022, 2024).
After studying under Noémie Bialobroda and Máté Szücs in Geneva, Sarah is now continuing her musical education in Jean Sulem’s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris.
Alongside her studies, she regularly takes part in top-level international academies such as the Verbier Festival Soloists Academy, the Seiji Ozawa International Academy, the IMS Prussia Cove masterclasses, the Lac Léman Music Masterclasses, the Keshet Eilon String Mastercourse, the Geneva International String Academy and the Kronberg Academy Workshops. She has thus been able to perfect her skills with renowned artists such as Nobuko Imai, Tatjana Masurenko, Lawrence Power, Thomas Riebl, Antoine Tamestit and Tabea Zimmermann.
Sarah also regularly performs as a soloist: her appearances include Telemann Viola Concerto with the Boho Strings (Murten Classics festival), Hoffmeister Viola Concerto with the Collegium Musicum Basel, Bruch Double Concerto for viola and clarinet, Bruch Romance and Hummel Potpourri for viola and orchestra.
Finally, her involvement in chamber music has enabled her to perform alongside established musicians such as Corina Belcea, Peter Bruns,
Svetlana Makarova, Sergey Ostrovsky, Antje Weithaas and Robin Wilson. Sarah is supported by the Ruth and Ernst Burkhalter Foundation.
