Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra
Orchestra
For over fifty years, the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra (Schweizer Jugend Sinfonie Orchester/ SJSO) has combined talent and passion, bringing together young musicians from all over Switzerland. This makes it one of Switzerland’s few nationally active cultural organizations.
The Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra is an exceptional orchestra: up to a hundred young musicians aged 15 to 25 from all over Switzerland come together under the baton of internationally renowned conductors to perform demanding works spanning all periods of classical music.
During rehearsals and concerts, talented young musicians gain valuable orchestral experience, which will have a lasting impact on the rest of their careers. Many former SJSO members now hold positions in renowned professional orchestras. The wide range of languages represented at the SJSO also helps to forge links between Switzerland’s different cultural circles.
During its spring and autumn tours, each of which includes six to seven concerts throughout Switzerland, the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra strives to win over audiences and enthuse the media. It is thanks to the financial support of the State, cantons, municipalities, companies, private associations and patrons that this unique platform can be made available to musicians. Through this phenomenal promotion of young classical musicians, the SJSO makes a significant contribution to culture and education in Switzerland.
